June 2026 Almond Position Report & Market Pricing Recap
The June Position Report delivered another constructive update for the almond industry, with export demand continuing to offset a sluggish domestic market. The industry shipped 212.98 million pounds during June, up 14.1% from last year, driven by exports of 163.25 million pounds, a 20.6% increase year-over-year. Domestic shipments, however, declined 3.1% to 49.7 million pounds. Through June, total shipments stand at 2.426 billion pounds, just 0.95% below last season, highlighting the strength of international demand.
Export markets continue to outperform expectations. Western Europe is up 6%, while several key destinations posted impressive gains, including Spain (+18%), Turkey (+42%), Morocco (+49%), Vietnam (+29%), and Singapore (+53%). India remains the industry's largest customer at 344 million pounds shipped year-to-date, though purchases are running about 9% below last year as buyers continue a hand-to-mouth purchasing strategy. China remains the weakest major market, with shipments down approximately 35% year-over-year.
Domestic demand remains the primary challenge, with shipments down 12.74% from last year. Even so, exports now account for roughly 78% of all shipments, allowing the industry to maintain a strong overall pace. Another positive sign was the increase in outstanding commitments, which reached 368.5 million pounds, up nearly 18% from last year. Uncommitted inventory also declined 18% to 328 million pounds, indicating that available supplies continue to tighten as the crop year comes to a close.
Overall, the report remains supportive for the market. Crop receipts are slightly below last year, quality continues to be favorable, and export demand remains resilient. As attention shifts toward the upcoming Objective Measurement Report, the combination of strong export movement, healthy forward commitments, and tightening available inventory should provide a solid foundation for pricing as harvest approaches.
